On 17th July 2014 we took possession of a rather large 48 foot catamaran. We had sold our land based-house, and most of its adornments, and ventured out for a lifestyle change on water. Twelve months ago, on 16th July 2025, after almost exactly 11 years on the water, we stepped back on to land, handing the ‘keys’ to the boat to a broker to sell Sengo. For the next six months we travelled around in a new car (a 4WD) trailing a pop-top camper. As boats for many are a luxury item, we knew we could be waiting a couple of years before Sengo found a new owner. Fortunately, it didn’t take that long, and we settled on a house in South-East Queensland five months later.

We will still have the odd adventure – but most of them will be land-based. I will still write up my diary notes for our ‘away from home’ activities – and I may publish some of them under the Plodding Along tab.

I haven’t lived up to my aim of writing one short story per month – a hopeful task I set myself 18 months ago – however, the past 18 months have been a tad stressful. Now that we have ‘settled’ I can get back to my goals – but I have also found other hobbies, some of which were impossible on water. This change has presented us with some interesting opportunities and we are enjoying ourselves – and life is no longer ruled completely by the weather.
